Dena Jo Kettinger

Dena Jo Kettinger, 77, of rural Richland, Missouri, died at her home, July 6, 2018. She was born May 26, 1941 in rural Camden County, to William Raymond and Elizabeth Kathleen (Scott) Oursbourn. Dena professed her faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Lynn Oursbourn and a grandson, Nick Smith. Dena had a passion for the simple and natural things in life and a true desire to care for others. In addition to lovingly raising her family, she always found time to provide care and comfort to many of the elderly of the community. She found great pleasure in gardening and landscaping and enjoyed observing and caring for the little creatures of the world. She enjoyed traveling to different states, visiting flea markets, and if time allowed, painting. She could always be found involved in the activities of her church; teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, and providing delicious food items. She read and studied the Bible and possessed a true and unwavering faith. Dena is survived by her husband, Frank of the home, four daughters: Gina Smith (Randall) of Stoutland, MO, Melody Phillips (George) of Barnhart, MO, Melisa French (Steven) of Wales, United Kingdom, April York (Johnny) of Waynesville, MO; two sons: Dale Kettinger (Lora) of Chattanooga, TN and Gaylon Kettinger (Mary) of Ulman, MO; one sister: Evelyn Starnes of Stoutland, MO; one sister-in-law: Sybil Oursbourn of Lebanon, MO; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dena will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, neighbor and friend. Her sweet spirit and beautiful smile will forever be treasured by those who loved her. Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 10, 2018, in the Memorial Chapel of Richland with Pastor Billy Williams officiating. Mark Mortonsen gave a touching eulogy. Soloist and pianist, Missy Miller sang “The Prettiest Flowers Will Be Blooming” and also led the congregation in singing; “I’ll Fly Away.” Serving as escorts were Shane Ogle, John York, Elijah Spurgeon, Micah Smith, Jonah Phillips and Steve Nast. Honorary escorts included George Phillips, Randall Smith and Larry Ogle. Burial followed in the Oaklawn Cemetery of Richland. Services were entrusted to Memorial Chapel of Richland.
