Eleanore Rita Buchholz

Eleonore Rita Buchholz, daughter of the late Franz Joseph and Emilie Mina (Fuchs) Hilsenbeck, was born February 27, 1928 in Karlsruhe, Germany where she grew up and attended school. On September 28, 1957, Eleonore was united in marriage to a United States military man, Walter A. Buchholz. They were wed in Karlsruhe, Germany and shortly after they were transferred to the United States. Eleonore was proud of the fact that she became a United States citizen in 1958. Eleonore and Walter were blessed with one son, Roy. Eleonore and the family were transferred to the Fort Leonard Wood area where Eleonore decided to stay after Walter passed away. Eleonore was a hardworking woman. She worked for Jones Store in Waynesville and later worked for Western Auto in Waynesville before working at Best Western. In her spare time, she enjoyed working out in her flower gardens. She was proud of her flowers. Eleonore was very active in the community. She served as chairperson for 20+ years for the Red Cross Bloodmobile, Salvation Army bell ringer’s chairperson, and taught English as a second language. She was very involved at her church, First Baptist Church of Waynesville. She served as a Sunday School teacher, sang in the church choir and served on the church finance committee. She also helped in the kitchen for every church dinner and she loved her church family tremendously. Eleonore went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 24, 2018 in Ocala, Florida having attained the age of 90 years. Eleonore will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son: Roy Buchholz and his wife Judy of Anthony, FL; one brother: Henry Hilsenbeck and wife Mare of Foley, AL; one sister: Margot Benedict of Valley Forge, PA; two grandchildren: Keith Buchholz and wife Elizabeth and April Buchholz; two great grandchildren: Rory and Eirin Buchholz; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Eleonore was preceded in death by three brothers: Egon, Horst and Otto Hilsenbeck. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2018 in the First Baptist Church of Waynesville with Dr. Dennis Crowder officiating. Eleonore’s son, Roy Buchholz, recalled his wonderful memories of his mother. Soloist Doreen Horn sang “Amazing Grace” and the congregation sang “When We All Get to Heaven”. The song “Give Me Jesus” by Fernando Ortega was played. Serving as escorts were family and friends. Burial followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery of Waynesville. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
