Janell Theresa Adkison

Janell Theresa Adkison, daughter of the late Lawrence and Lillie Belle (Prejean) Savoie, was born August 6, 1946 in Lake Charles, Louisiana where she grew up and attended school. Janell came to Missouri and met a United States airman, Ralph Edward Adkison while he was stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base. On February 16, 1968, Janell and Ralph were united in marriage. They came to the Waynesville, Missouri area and have spent the rest of their lives here. They shared over forty-nine years of marriage together and were blessed with three children: James Lawrence, Sueann Marie and James Joseph. Janell worked hard to help provide for her family. She served as a cashier for IGA and worked as a cook for Waynesville Hospital, Ted Williams’ Steakhouse and Betty’s Café. She then became a manager for J & J Army Surplus, worked as a chef at Betty’s Café and served as a cashier at IGA. She retired in 1999 due to her health. She loved visiting with all the customers and patrons as they came in and many people lovingly thought of her as their mother or grandmother. Janell loved to crochet and watch reality television. She was a wonderful cook and was known for baking the best hot rolls anyone had ever had. Most importantly, she loved her family and enjoyed spending every minute she could with them. Janell passed away Friday, June 2, 2017, in Mercy Hospital, of Springfield, Missouri having attained the age of seventy years. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. Janell leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Ralph of the home; two sons: James White (Marla) of Salem, MO and James Joseph Adkison (Dorrain) of San Antonio, TX; six grandchildren: Alysa Crews, Jeremy White (Elyse), Jordan White, Jeri White, Christopher Adkison, and James Adkison, Jr; six great-grandchildren: Bane Brown, Austin Quick, McKinlee, Marisa, and Malayna White and greatly anticipating the arrival of baby M.J.; a brother-in-law: Vernon Farrell of Dermott, AR ; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Janell was preceded in death by her daughter: Sueanne Marie East; and two sisters: Norma Farrell and Shirley Riffe. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Pastor Danny Graves officiating. Music was provided by a recording done by Janell’s husband, Ralph. Serving as escorts were Carroll “Buzz” Hendrix, Jeremy White, Charlie Eickhorst, Rob Haines, Kevin Ellzey, James Adkison, Austin Quick, Christopher Adkison and Bane Brown. Burial followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery of Waynesville. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Janell Adkison to Cancer Research and may be left at the funeral home.
