Glenna Louise Scott

Glenna Louise (McDaniel) Scott passed into eternity on August 1, 2018 at the age of 73. Glenna was born the seventh of ten children to James William McDaniel (1905-1986) and Edith Malderine (Hudson) McDaniel (1908-1972) in Holland, Missouri on August 21, 1944. The family shared close bonds and made many memories on a farm where they worked as cotton pickers until 1956, when the family relocated to Richland, Missouri to be among the larger extended family. Glenna graduated from Richland High School in 1962 and studied Secretarial Training at Southeast Missouri State University. In 1964, at a little restaurant in downtown Waynesville, Glenna met Donald Leo Scott, son of Alfred Wayne Scott (1912-1981) and Leva Virginia (Wade) Scott (1913-1979) of Waynesville. Don, a handsome race car driver, swept her off her feet and the couple was united in marriage at the Waynesville Church of Christ on October 9, 1965. Don and Glenna raised three children. Through their years together, Don and Glenna enjoyed music, dancing, bowling, traveling in their RV, and (most of all), spending time with their family and friends. In 2015, the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a vow renewal in the presence of their family and friends. Glenna is a member of the Waynesville Church of Christ. Glenna was an active leader in the Dogwood Trails Troop of the Girl Scouts of America, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was one of the founders of the area organized sports program. From 1991 to 1997, when she was the first lady of St. Robert, Glenna began St. Robert’s first beautification project. Throughout her life, she organized many fundraisers for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, a cause she was very passionate about. Glenna enjoyed journal writing, gardening, and bird watching, but she spent much of her spare time conducting research and compiling a history of her family, which she has written about. She volunteered as a member of the Old Stagecoach Stop Foundation in Waynesville and helped to establish the Trail of Tears Interpretive Trail on the Roubidoux River in downtown Waynesville. She also contributed for many years to the publication Old Settler’s Gazette, as a researcher and writer. Glenna began her career as a secretary, manager, and bookkeeper for various companies, but she spent the bulk of her career as a secretary for Waynesville High School; she began that position in 1987 and retired in 2007. Glenna is survived by her husband, Donald Leo Scott of Waynesville; her children: Deanna Lynn Thompson (Charles) of Waynesville, Mary Elizabeth Gillis (William) of Rolla, and James Donald Scott (Kellie) of Waynesville; her grandchildren: Conon William Gillis (Lacey), Dillon Richard Gillis (Brianna), Zane Donald Howser, Gage Ashton Scurlock, Wade Austin Howser, Skye Alison Scott, and Braylin Michael Scott; one great-grandson, Blake Austin Howser, three siblings: Donald Eugene McDaniel, Kenneth Ray McDaniel (Dalene), and Mary Deloris Bates (Gary); Brother-in-law Wayne Junior Scott; Sister-in-law Patricia F. Scott, and many friends and extended family. Glenna was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Loreata and Hazel; her brothers: J. D., Harold, Charles, and Talmage; brother in law, James Rudolph, and sister-in-law, Margaret; and one grandson, Cameron. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 6, 2018 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Pastor Danny Graves officiating. The songs “Supermarket Flowers” by Ed Sheeran, “Amazing Grace” by Elvis Presley and “My Woman, My Woman, My Wife” by Marty Robbins were played. Serving as escorts were Conon Gillis, Dillon Gillis, Gage Scurlock, Wade Howser, Braylin Scott and Paul Shultz II. Serving as honorary escorts were Zachary Scott, Wayne Scott and Terry Shultz. Burial followed in the Dunkard Cemetery of St. Robert, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Glenna Scott to the Dunkard Cemetery, Alzheimer’s Assoc., St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Pulaski County Historical Society and Girl Scouts of America. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.
